How to Install the Fashio Shopify App — Setup, Permissions, First Image

Installing Fashio into Shopify takes about five minutes, and the app asks for exactly one permission: read and write products. This guide walks the whole path — install, API key, first generated image, and what actually happens to your data at each step.

Quick Answer

1 permission ~5 minutes Free to install No store billing

Install the app, paste a Fashio API key once, then open any product and use the two new entries in its More actions menu. Credits are bought in your Fashio account, so nothing is added to your Shopify bill.

What the app actually is

Fashio for Shopify is a studio that opens from a product page. It reads the photo already attached to the product, generates on-model imagery from it, and — only when you press the button — writes the result back into that product's media.

It is not a background service. It does not watch your catalogue, it does not generate while you sleep, and it never edits a product you did not open. That constraint is deliberate: an app that can write to your product media should only do so on a press you made, on an image you looked at.

Before you start

  1. A Shopify store you are staff or owner on. Installing an app needs the app-management permission on that store.
  2. A Fashio account. Free to create. Credits can be added later — you do not need a paid plan to install.
  3. At least one product with a photo on it. Fashio generates from an existing image, so a product with no media has nothing to work from.

Step 1 — Install the app

Install Fashio into your Shopify admin. Shopify shows you the permission screen before anything is granted, and there is one line on it:

Scope What it allows What it does not
read_products Read a product's title and its existing images Nothing outside the products resource
write_products Add a generated image to a product's media Delete your existing images, change price, stock or description

There is no orders scope, no customers scope, and no payments scope on the request. If you ever see an app in this category asking for those, that is worth a second look.

Step 2 — Connect your Fashio API key

The app opens inside Shopify and asks for a Fashio API key once. Create one in the Fashio dashboard under Profile → API Keys, copy it, and paste it in.

Why a key rather than a login

The key is what ties generations to your credit balance rather than to the store. It is also why the same balance works across Shopify, ikas and the REST API at the same time — they are all the same account, reached from different places.

Step 3 — Open a product

Open any product in your Shopify admin and look at the More actions menu at the top of the page. Two Fashio entries are now there:

  1. Generate a product photo. One image at a time. Pick the model, the environment and the pose, then generate.
  2. Run a catalogue shoot. Pick a ready-made photoshoot and Fashio renders every shot in it against this product — front, side, seated, detail, and so on — as one job.

Step 4 — Generate, review, add

Results appear in the app. Each one carries two buttons: Download, and Add to product. Nothing reaches the product page until you press the second one.

That is the whole loop. From a cold install to an image on a live product page is a handful of minutes, most of which is the generation itself.

Put it on one product and judge from the result

Pick your worst product photo, run it through the app, and decide from what comes back. That is usually faster than reading another page about it.

How credits work

Credits live in your Fashio account, not in the store. You buy them in Fashio and spend them per generated image, whichever store you happen to be working in. Nothing is billed through Shopify, so the app never adds a line to your store's bill.

A Growth membership is $29.99 a month for 160 credits. At five credits per generation that works out to roughly $0.75 an image.

One balance, several stores

If you sell on two platforms, paste the same API key into each. Both draw from the same balance and nothing is tied to a single store.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Most likely cause Fix
The Fashio entries are missing from More actions The admin page was open before the install finished Reload the product page
"Invalid API key" The key was copied with surrounding whitespace, or revoked in Fashio Re-copy it from Profile → API Keys and paste again
A generation fails The source image is too small, or the garment is unclear in it Use a larger, clearer source photo. Failed generations refund their credits automatically
Nothing to generate from The product has no image attached Add one product photo first — Fashio works from an existing image, not from the title

What happens when you uninstall

The access token and the stored API key are deleted immediately. Images you already added to products stay exactly where they are — at that point they are your product media, not the app's.

Frequently Asked Questions

What permissions does the Fashio Shopify app ask for?

Products only — reading a product's existing images and writing new ones back. No orders, no customers, no payments, and no customer data of any kind.

Does installing it cost anything?

No. Installing is free; you spend Fashio credits per generated image, bought in your Fashio account rather than billed through Shopify.

Where do I find my Fashio API key?

In the Fashio dashboard under Profile → API Keys. You paste it into the app once and it is stored for that shop.

What happens to my images if I uninstall?

The access token and stored API key are deleted immediately. Images already added to products remain, because they are your product media at that point.

Does the app change anything on its own?

No. No app watches your catalogue or generates in the background. An image reaches a product only when you press the button on that specific image.
